Year of Establishment
The erstwhile Optics and Optoelectronics Division of the Department of Applied Physics was re-christened as the Department of Applied Optics and Photonics in 2005, to initiate and strengthen an integrated approach in the research and teaching in emerging areas like, imaging technology, optical Instrumentation including Astronomical Instrumentation, Photonics including laser engineering, fiber optics and integrated optics, computer-aided design of optical components and systems, diffractive optics, optical metrology and instrumentation, optical computing, image processing and pattern recognition, nano-photonics, marine photonics, bio-photonics, etc
