Centre for Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology :-
Considering the diversity of acknowledged and available expertise and the vast possibilities of research and applications of nanoscience and nanotechnology, the Syndicate of the University of Calcutta has established a Centre for Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in June, 2006.
As a strong base of world-class research in physical science, chemical science, biological science and technology exists in the University, it was decided that the University of Calcutta would mainly concentrate in developing a centre of excellence in nanofabrication -one of the most important subsets of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
The ultimate goal of studies in nanofabrication is to develop materials and devices that might outperform existing performance and technological applications and would even create new ones with completely novel functionalities. It is believed that the identified thrust area of nanofabrication will have right scope of front-line research and its potentialities for technocommercial utilisations can be used for the benefit of the society.
The proposal evolved by the experts at the University of Calcutta in consultation with other stakeholders and collaborators was later finalised and approved by MHRD and UGC. At a later stage UGC has finalised the project giving stress on the synergic development of the area of nanofabrication on collaborative mode under the broader perspective of nanoscience and nanotechnology including nano-biotechnology.
