Selection Procedure
The following candidates are eligible to apply for admission :
1. CU Honours graduates of the current year
2. CU Honours graduates of the preceding year
3. First class honours graduate or 1st class graduate with single major/single main subjects of other Indian Universities of the (10+2+3) pattern. Candidates passing Honours/Major Courses in Science with first class at undergraduate levels from Indira Gandhi National Open University, Netaji Subhas Open University and the Distance Education Programme of other Universities in West Bengal of current and preceding year
4. Honours graduate in Agriculture of other Indian Universities are eligible for Agriculture.
5. A graduate having Geology as Pass/General subject of CU and Non-CU is also eligible for Applied Geology.
6. Admission is strictly in order of merit, judged on the basis of marks secured in honours subjects. In case of a tie, the aggregate of marks in general subjects are taken into consideration.
However, in some courses there are admission tests and/or interviews.
7. Selection of CU honours candidates of the preceding year will be done according to merit provided that their marks are not less than the lowest marks of current year’s candidates admitted. However, the number of such candidates admitted should not cross 5% of the total seats in the subject concerned.
8. Candidates from other universities will be selected through interview.
9. Physically Handicapped candidates must produce a certificate from a medical expert specified by the University.
10. For Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates 22% and 6% of total number of seats will be reserved, respectively for all subjects. A Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe student getting admission should obtain marks in the previous qualifying examination in the relevant honours subject not lower than that obtained by the last candidate admitted from the general category by more than 25%.
11. A Draft Merit List of the candidates graduated from CU will be published after the last date of submission of application forms, which will be notified. All the CU applicants are requested to check the Draft list specially Hons. Marks, Pass/Genl. Marks, SC/ST/PH and order of preference of courses. If there is any mistake, please report immediately in writing to the concerned Secretary’s Office within two days. No claim will be entertained later.
12. Termination of studentship
A student who is admitted to any postgraduate course of study and who remains absent from classes for ten days at a stretch or intermittently for more than fifty percent of class held during any three consecutive weeks, will be debarred from continuing his/her studies and his/her name will be struck off the rolls. Fees submitted by the student at the time of admission will be forfeited.
13. Admission to be closed within one month from the commencement of class.
