I have been teaching English literature for the last 27 years. My first teaching assignment was at Scottish Church College, Kolkata, one of the oldest colleges in the city. I joined this college as a lecturer in English in June, 1983. I have served this institution from June, 1983 to December, 1983. For about a month I taught conversation in English at Indo-American Society in Jan-Feb 1984. On 19th of June 1984 I joined Lady Brabourne College as lecturer in English. I served this elitist girls’ college for 15 years 9 months, from 19/06/1984 to 06/03/2000. Thus, I was in the West Bengal Higher Education Service (Women’s Branch) from 1984 to March 2000. These were the most exhilarating as well as formative years of my life. I have taught both undergraduate and post-graduate classes at Rabindra Bharati University, Emerald Bower Campus from March, 1995 to May, 1996. Then on the 6th of March, 2000 I joined University Of Calcutta. I have found an anchor in my life after joining my Alma-Mater and have put in eleven years of service. At present I am Associate Professor in the Department Of English, Calcutta University, teaching English Literature, American Literature, Gender & Literature and Indian Writing in English including R.K. Narayan as special author. I contribute articles to different journals (Calcutta University Journals and The Atlantic Monthly, New Delhi). Some of these articles are on Katherine Mansfield and her short stories, Margaret Atwood and on Charles Dickens. Under my guidance dissertations on Helen Keller and Sarojini Naidu have been successfully completed. Another dissertation on the American playwright Paddy Chayefsky is nearing its completion. Although I have one book to my credit – C.R. Das’s Songs of the Sea; A book of poems, another book on Sister Nivedita’s letters is on the way, these are UGC funded Projects, DRS Project (SAP-III) Phase-II in English. Edited a book jointly with Sinjini Bandyopadhyay titled ‘Race, Class and Gender: Literary & Cultural Representations’ (UGC, Academic Staff College and Department of English, University of Calcutta, February 2007).
