Background

The two year post graduate course in Environmental Science commenced from the year 2000 with an intake capacity of 15 students. The students are from various undergraduate honours disciplines of life science, physical science and earth science. Besides theoretical and practical classes the students undertake a three months full time Industrial / Institutional training in leading research Institutions and Universities. Presently the department has two permanent faculty members and a few other sanctioned posts.

Faculties of repute from various science departments (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Geology, Geography, Atmospheric Science, Marine Science, Zoology, Botany etc.) and technology departments (Chemical technology and Engineering etc.) along with other Guest Faculties from Management and Technology Institutes / Industries are taking classes regularly. Currently the department has research collaboration with several national and international Research Institutions.

The department has been publishing several highly impacted publications in international journals. The success rate of the students in GATE, NET, GRE and other examinations is worth mentioning. Former students of the department are continuing their research in highly acclaimed national and international research Institutions. Environmental Science department is involved with several community outreach program both at state and national level.
