This is a vocational course that trains students in Communication Skills, Soft Skills, Media and Public Relations intending to enable them to secure suitable jobs in the BPO industry, Front Office, and Sales. Apart from this they can pursue higher studies in Mass Communication and Journalism Public Relations and other Media-related courses, English Language and Literature, Comparative Literature and B.Ed. Every year the students are sent for “On-the-Job Training” to expose them to industry trends.
Keeping pace with the modern times the B.A. (Major) Communicative English course was started in 1995 by the University of Calcutta .The curriculum aims at enhancing the latent vocational skills of the students, providing intensive training in developing proficiency in the English language. A full-fledged language lab for perfecting pronunciation of the students is an added attraction of the course.
In the first year the students study Phonetics and English Grammar. Emphasis is given to improve Reading , Listening, Conversation and Presentation Skills.
In the second year the course comprises of Writing Skills and Conversational English.
The third year syllabus includes Media Studies and English for Business Communication.
Apart from the regular degree syllabus , the students are required to undergo training of four weeks each in three basic areas .These programmes are conducted in the final year of their study so that the students can utilize the skills they have learnt in the first two years of and apply them in their proper perspective.
