Established in 2005 the Nehru Studies Centre primarily undertakes research on Jawaharlal Nehru’s role in the maturing of India’s freedom struggle, his envisioning of nation-building process in the post-colonial period and his involvement with Non-aligned Movement which heightened the prestige of our country in world politics, especially in the eyes of the Third World. This exercise is extremely relevant in a world where disparities between rich and poor countries have been reinforced by the forces of economic liberalisation and globalisation, with the rich nations dictating terms on poor countries by pushing their own agenda at such forums as the World Trade Organisation. Researches and activities at the Centre also explore the neglected components of Nehru’s speeches and actions in the realm of foreign policy, and examining their relevance in the 21st century. The Centre proposes to promote international understanding and focus on nation building processes in independent India.
