The University of Calcutta inspires and helps the students to be involved in community activities when they are in campus. Students of the University are very much involved with extracurricular and community activities in campus with the leadership of Calcutta University Students’ Union (CUSU). Calcutta University Students’ Union organises various social activities like blood donation camp, collection of money for relief and to help flood-affected people, etc. Every year many cultural and sports programmes are organised by students. CUSU welcomes new students by a ceremonial freshers’ welcome named “PARICHAY” in each year. Annual cultural festival “CAMPUS” along with various students’ performances, cultural events are organised. Both indoor and outdoor sports competitions are also organised by CUSU. Calcutta University Students’ Union (CUSU) is India’s biggest students’ union concerned with more than 13,000 members. All the campuses have separate autonomous students’ union bodies and a Central Standing Committee. CUSU is the highest authority. The Students’ Union functions with the University with a progressive attitude in planning students’ academic development. From syllabus to study material, developmental planning and research and placement prospects of students are reviewed and monitored. Every year, an election of General Council is held.
