Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D programme in Environmental Science. Candidates willing to pursue research work leading to the Ph.D (Sc.) degree in Environmental Science, University of Calcutta, should apply in the format (to be downloaded) and submitted to the Office of the Environmental Science Department, after paying Rs. 100 at the University Cash Counter through a challan available from the University Sales Counter at the CU College Street Campus / Law Campus, CU. A photocopy of the challan of RET examination fee deposited by the candidate must be attached to the application form.

Eligibility:
Candidates from Environmental Science and allied subjects may apply subject to the clearance of equivalence from the University, they should complete RET formalities by the examination board of the concerned department.

The candidate should have Chemistry as a combination subject at the bachelor’s level. Percentage at the Master’s level should be at least 55% marks.

Those candidates who have already passed UGC-CSIR (JRF) NET/SET/SLET/GATE/M.Phil/ M.Tech or equivalent examination need not appear at the written test and can apply directly for the interview.

Examination:
Examination will be for 50 marks of one hour duration. There will be 50 (MCQ), each of 1 mark. Syllabus of the examination will follow the post graduate environmental science syllabus. (Structure of the syllabus available from the university website)

NOTE:

1. Maximum upto 15 candidates will be selected for this year (2012). Reservation will be followed as per existing rules.
2. Qualifying the RET examination does not guarantee admission to Ph.D programme. The candidate has to state the name of supervisor (with endorsement of the supervisor and a brief plan of work justifying its entry into Ph.D. programme in Environment Science) and also source of the research fund. The supervisors have to be approved by the Ph.D committee of the Environmental Science Department. Names of such approved supervisors are given in the Notice Board of the Environmental Science Department.
