The idea of a Nature Club under the aegis of the University of Calcutta first took shape on an April evening in 2023, when a few faculty members from the Ballygunge Campus witnessed the rare planetary parade of Venus, Mars, and Jupiter in the western sky. Enthralled by the spectacle, they wondered, "Why don't we continue such activities on a regular basis?" This simple thought sowed the seeds of a Nature Club.
In September 2023, a group of faculty members, research scholars, and students participated in a beach-cleaning drive on Sagar Island as part of International Coastal Clean-up Day, further reinforcing the idea. The proposal was warmly welcomed by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor and the Registrar of the University.
Finally, in March 2025, the Nature Club received formal recognition through a Syndicate resolution. On June 5th 2025, the club officially observed World Environment Day in collaboration with the Department of Home Science through plantation, awareness lectures, film show, and a panel discussion.
