Vision IPR Cell seeks to develop, nurture and foster a creative and innovation ecosystem that promotes sustainable and responsible innovation in the oldest university, University of Calcutta

Mission of the IPR Cell at the University of Calcutta:

  1. IP Awareness & Training – Conducting workshops, seminars, and training programs to enhance knowledge of intellectual property rights (IPR).
  2. Capacity Building for IP Strategy – Developing expertise in IP management, protection, and commercialization among faculty, students, and researchers.
  3. Advanced Research in IPR – Encouraging scholarly research in various aspects of intellectual property law, policy, and innovation.
  4. Future Academic Programmes – Gradually introducing formal academic courses related to IPR in the coming years.
  5. Support for Inventors – Assisting innovators throughout the process, from ideation to patent grant, and registration of copyright, trademark, industrial design, integrated circuits (IC), database rights, and Plant Breeders’ Rights (PBR).
  6. University IPR Policy Development – Establishing a structured IPR policy at the University of Calcutta to streamline technology transfer and commercialization of patented products.
  7. Technology Transfer & Commercialization – Facilitating industry collaborations to bring patented innovations to market.
  8. Support for Grassroots Innovators – Extending assistance to local inventors and entrepreneurs across West Bengal, promoting inclusive innovation and protection of traditional knowledge.

Objectives
The main goal of IPR Cell within academia is to integrate IPR with the educational process to improve quality of thinking, spread a culture of regard and respect for IPR, ensure prompt and accurate identification and protection of innovations resulting from research work carried out in the university, facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology from academia to industry, and broaden the scope of their commercialization. The Cell also wants to support local innovators and collective creativity at the grassroots level in realising the economic advantages of their innovations.
